Ruth Bader Ginsburg is one of the OG feminists. She is the second woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court and is a vocal proponent for gender equality; she has become a shining symbol of feminism and an icon within the movement.
In the midst of her recent vocalization of her support of gay marriage in the midst of a pending supreme court ruling, I thought it appropriate to recognize this truly incredible woman. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from one of feminism’s original matriarch.
“People ask me sometimes, ‘When will there be enough women in the court?’ And my answer is: When there are nine?”
“The decision of whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman’s life, her well being, and her dignity.”
“Who – man or woman, has it all, all at once? Over my lifespan I think I have had it all. But in different periods of time, things were rough. And if you have a caring life partner, you help the other person when that person needs it.”
“My mother told me two things constantly. One was to be a lady, and the other was to be independent.”
“It’s not women’s liberation, it is women’s and men’s liberation.”
