Neon Moon: Body Loving Lingerie Made With Feminist Ethos

Lingerie and feminism aren’t two words that are typically associated with one another.  UK designer Hayat Rachi, creator of Neon Moon, is working to change that.  Rather than bra burning, she is creating her own line of body positive bras and panties.

Rachi started her lingerie line after finding it difficult to find garments that align with her ethos of empowerment, body confidence and the non-objectification of women.  If you have every seen a Victoria’s Secret commercial, you’ll know what she means.

Rather than simply bending to the will of the market, she decided to create her own line of “body-loving” lingerie that “fits to women’s bodies, rather than the other way around,” according to a Huffington Post article.  Through a successful Kickstarter campaign, and receiving a grant from the Prince’s Trust enterprise program, Neon Moon came to life.  “Feminist lingerie is not a privilege,” she said, “it’s a right.”

“Girls should not have to question why they look a certain way or feel that they have to conform to society’s pressures,” Rachi went on in the article.   “It’s important for girls to not compare themselves to unachievable standards of ‘beauty’. Rather, they need to reclaim the right to their bodies and decide how it should look for them and not for others.”

Neon Moon’s body conscious designs are designed to be comfortable on a woman’s body using bamboo fabrics, soft cups, and no under-wire.  No more prodding and poking – unwire bras are the bane of my existence so, yes, there’s a little bias there.

Currently, Neon Moon offers sizes in small through large.  However, after much public scrutiny, Rachi will be adding additional sizes in order to accommodate every woman.

Personally, I am thrilled to see a woman take an actual stand and ignite change.  So many people bitch and complain about the lingerie industry, how it hurts women’s self esteem and objectifies their bodies.  But we see little response.  Rachi put her beliefs into action, and created something truly beautiful and significant to the feminist movement.  Women deserve lingerie that is created for their bodies in all of their splendor: cellulite, hips, stretch marks, and all.  All of our beautiful imperfections that make us who we are.

Now…if I could only decide on which set I like most…..
